Panasonic AG-AF100 Video Walk Through

Take a look at the Panasonic AG-AF100 hot off the floor at NAB 2010.

For best results click through and watch in HD. Oh yes, the last part of the video covers the Panasonic AG-3DA1 3D camcorder if you’re interested…

Nice video from the folks at Film-TV-Video.de at the 4/3″ camera that is a cross between a DSLR and a camcorder. This looks like the only prototype and they do not show it working so it may be more of a mockup.

Rumors are putting the price at USD $6,000 but I’m betting they will come in under $3,000 for the base camera.

The company spokesman mentioned using any of the Panasonic Lumix lenses directly but having to use an adapter for 3rd party lenses. Also mentioned how close the sensor is to the end of the lens, making the field of view more like 35mm.

While there are plenty of people who are not sure about the AVC/H.264 Hi Profile AVCHD codec, Panasonic is wisely including a BNC connector with HD-SDI out. This means you should be able to bypass the heavy compression required to write full frame HD video to an SDHC card and record uncompressed video to a field recorder. That along with a set of prime lenses should do the job for most any indie production.
